Top Gear (SNES, 1992)
Graphics-7.5 Sound-8 Control-6.5 Challenge-8 Story-N/A
Level Design-6.5 Frustration-8.5/9.5* Fun-6.5 Originality-5
Overall Score-6.5/7 (2p)?
*Going for first place on default/easy (used the white car)
+
2-player vs (split-screen)
Nitro mechanic (Turbo Outrun, Super Hang-On)
Nighttime levels with lights on your car (not the other cars though)
Some of the music is fairly impressive (mainly the italo disco/synth pop style tracks)
Course maps
Pit stops and fuel mechanics
Difficulty options (easy-hard, quickly gets hard even on easy though)
Control options
Four different cars to choose from (pick before beginning a game)
The edgy speech bubbles add a bit of personality
+/-
Password save (short)
No rearview mirror
The physics in turns don't feel realistic and turning in general feels a bit stiff

Select to pause
Split-screen is always on even in 1P
So-so framerate whenever there are a few cars on screen and the game isn't quite smooth otherwise either
Sometimes inconsistent hit detection when touching other cars (sometimes it looks like you did but you go right through them) and it's very hard to make it advantageous to touch other cars
No jump physics even when there are hills followed by slopes - makes these segments feel very twitchy
Trial & error (can accidentally skip refueling in a pit stop as it actually lets you choose when to stop refueling as soon as you enter it, slopes, obstacles on the road, thin parts, getting into the pit stop feels harder than it should be and sometimes you might even do it by mistake because of thin road next to it - or worse hit the tires sticking out in front of it and cutting into the main road)
Some music tracks don't sound that good (the rock track from the Amiga version for example)
Uneven difficulty (usually too hard to get first place after the first country or so even on easy)
Only four in-game tracks
Notes:
-Automatic gearbox option and car selection is accessed by selecting 1-player (you'll then get to name your driver and pick between manual or auto)
-You'll want to start races at about 40% throttle
