Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster’s Hidden Treasure (MD, 1993)

Picture
Graphics-8 Sound-7.5 Control-7 Challenge-7

Level Design-7 Frustration-7.5 Fun-7.5 Originality-5

Overall Score-7

+ Fast paced, wall jumps, secret rooms, secret levels, bonus levels, password save (pretty long though and it doesn't save stats (lifebar, items, 1-ups)), you can jump down through platforms, special attacks (smart bombs - gain one more per 50 carrots collected), timed invincibility power up, slide move (need to be running), some branching paths, hub world (SMW-style), extendable lifebar (find hidden bells, only lasts until you lose a life, up to 5 hearts), good art direction and FM sound effects

+/- Very similar to Sonic and Mario, can't use a smart bomb during invincibility,
odd jumping physics (super fast fall when releasing the button - both good and bad since you can stop ascending right away when needed, triangle shaped arc), unlimted continues (but only until the last area?), collecting points never gives you any 1-ups? (and the game doesn't save your score either), instant death from spikes (but not spike balls)

- Somewhat repetitive, some trial & error (leaps of faith - can't look up/down), jumping into a wall at high speed triggers an animation and kills your momentum, mostly simple bosses, some tedious sections (underwater levels and the ghost ship), Psycho Fox-like acceleration (takes a while...), gets a lot harder/more frustrating in the final area,
collected smart bombs don't carry over to the next level (and 1-ups would've been more useful overall), can't play as any of the other characters (see the NES games), safe spot behind the final boss

Notes:
27 Levels
7 Bosses
