Rodland (Amiga)
Graphics-7.5 Sound-6.5 Control-7 Challenge-7.5
Level Design-7 Frustration-7 Fun-7 Originality-5
Overall Score-7
+ 2-player coop, some interesting mechanics (scoring, create ladders (u/d+attack), stun enemies, collect all flowers to turn enemies into turnips which can then yield letters - spell extra to gain a 1-up), decent enemy variation, sfx and music
+/- Time limit on stages (invisible, enemies first turn quicker and then disappear - this limit seems longer than in the arcade version), time limit on extra mode (invisible), somewhat forgiving hit detection (both for you and smaller enemies), overpowered quadruple ball special, getting a 1-up ends the current stage (can be annoying since you lose potential extra letters and points), somewhat easier final boss
- Somewhat slow paced (somewhat slower character movement and faster enemy movement compared to the arcade), repetitive, standing too close to the edge of the screen when throwing an enemy frees it from your grip (makes some stages surprisingly hard), some annoying music tracks (extra mode), mostly poor bosses, backgrounds are higher saturation than in the arcade game, somewhat less detailed than the arcade game, no credits, no difficulty options?, enemy AI is sometimes buggy (rare), almost no time to fetch fruit if you should kill all enemies with a special weapon, no 'second story' (rescue dad mode)?
