Good Retro Games by Region of Origin
Current Text List
The game selection is based mainly on user ratings from gamefaqs and mobygames (about 20+ votes and 3/5+ or 7/10+ ratings), and to a lesser extent igdb, imdb (they have better data for the '90s onwards), lemon64 and lemonamiga. From the early ‘90s onwards I increased the rating requirement for these to about 3.75/5 or 7.5/10. Original release dates were used.
It covers 1980-1999 for now.
Weighting (size of each phrase on a pic) was done manually as the wordart tool doesn't support both it and using phrases without repetition. Phrase sizes are not fully proportional, only in the order of biggest to smallest as the smallest ones became too small with correct proportions. In some cases I also used a combo of weight and the maximization option of the tool to make some pics read better. Finally there is some minor randomization of size for phrases with the same weight, which is done automatically by the tool.
Note also that the games weighting was initially based on number of ports of a game during the period mentioned, with some adjustments based on quick google searches for top games per year, my own bias as well as some of that randomization I mentioned. I'll probably redo this based on user ratings later on.

These pics on wordart.com are interactive so you can zoom in on each term by hovering the mouse pointer (and I assume your finger) over it. Multiregional games and devs were added to each regional pic - my reasoning for ports was that the original dev should be credited.
