Gangster Town (SMS, 1987)

Level Design-7 Frustration-8.5* Fun-6.5*/7 Originality-4.5
Overall Score-6.5
*1-player

2-player coop
Pretty good variety (on rails and sidescrolling levels, very good visual variety, innocents that shouldn't be shot and which can be taken hostage by gang member enemies)
Bonus levels (find the key in a wall of bricks, every third level) - pretty easy though
Some large and detailed sprites
Can shoot the gangsters' souls/angels as they die for extra points
Breakable windows and bottles
Pretty intense action
Hidden lifebar refills
+/-
No alternate weapons
Beating a boss ends a level, don't have to take out their underlings
Can continue if you die by shooting your hat as it flies off however you'll start with the default HP so it's a lot harder later on+it only works once
-
Overly hard to get a good enough rank for an HP increase (this is what the game means by your level) - 83% accuracy in level 5 isn't enough and if you don't get it you also don't start the next level with refilled health so it's basically impossible in 1-player
No (standard) continues and no difficulty options
No auto-fire power up and the default rate of fire is noticeably slower than you can press the button
The screen flashing gets annoying
Short at 6 short levels
Could've had one more car chase or a vertical scrolling level
For boss fights you basically just shoot at the boss to kill it as soon as possible since there are multiple underlings shooting at you at the same time
Notes:
-The crosshair in Fusion isn't quite accurate to where you shots land making the last level near impossible (better in Emulicious although there the cursor speed is a tad slow and the crosshair still doesn't seem quite accurate)
