Ka-Blooey/Bombuzal (SNES, 1990)
Graphics-5 Sound-6 Control-7 Challenge-8 Story-3
Level Design-7 Frustration-8 Fun-6.5 Originality-6.5
Overall Score-6.5
+ Somewhat unique concept (detonate all the bombs and mines in a level without getting stuck or dying - each bomb destroys part of the walkable paths in the level, remote controlled detonator vehicles, teleporters), infinite lives?, password saves (short), good length (130 levels),
+/- No in-game story, overall time limit (pausing to see the entire level stops the timer), no rewind feature, 2-player alternate vs. mode, no level select (bubble bobble style could've been nice),
- Default view is a bit too zoomed in (need to pause to see the entire level and the limited real-time view still becomes a problem in later levels with moving enemies in them (you die in one hit and can't fight them directly)) and the isometric ("3D") view is even more zoomed in, you'll explode if you stand still for too long, trial & error (mechanics (your avatar will still stop after moving off of a detonated bomb until the blast is over even if you move onto an ice tile (which would otherwise make you slide until the end of its path), mines, you can move into water, can only carry bombs on certain tiles, etc.), pretty much need to die at least once to solve many puzzles), poor art direction and use of color, pretty repetitive, no difficulty options, no alternade game modes, uneven difficulty curve, only one in-game track?,
