Vectorman (MD, 1995)

Picture
Graphics-7.5 Sound-6.5 Control-7 Challenge-7.5

Level Design-6.5 Frustration-9 Fun-7 Originality-7

Overall Score-7

+
Some innovative gameplay (some of the transformations and mini-game style levels, double jump also serves as a downward attack)
Good bosses
Hidden items
Difficulty options
Sometimes technically impressive (lighting and water effects)
Double jump

+/-
Time limits
Can't stand still while aiming (see Gunstar Heroes, Super Metroid, Contra: Hard Corps)

-
Poor camera (too tight when jumping (it's dizzying and leads to not knowing where you'll land) and pretty loose when turning around)
Confusing auto-scrolling levels (new mechanics for each and they only appear once)
Transformation mechanics aren't well realized (they activate immediately and are only used to skip parts of the level or break some wall right in front of you)
Corny and generic looking player character
Bland art direction with a dated digitzed look on the sprites
Sound effects too loud compared to the music, ugly explosions, some slowdown, some tedious vertical platforming, no auto-fire?
