suteF (PC, 2010)
Graphics-8 Sound-7 Control-7 Challenge-6.5 Story-6
Level Design-7.5 Frustration-6 Fun-7 Originality-6
Overall Score-7
+
Interesting atmosphere (cryptic and dark)
Good puzzles overall
Combines old mechanics (SMB 2 US/VVVVVV, block pushing, reverse grav activator, grapple hook, Pac-Man style movement) in interesting ways
Good art direction
Unlimited lives
Some interesting storytelling techniques (in the end though the story is more concerned with being dark and edgy than saying anything about its characters or world)
+/-
Need to beat chapters A-D to unlock E/F (just D isn't enough)
Usually no music in-game
Nothing is explained in the ending (even after the void levels)
-
Irreversible tile-based actions
Many of the early puzzles solve themselves
Levels changing mid-way through
"Maul" intermission (no reason for the long pause before story event)
Somewhat slow transitions
Final encounter is very simple and almost non-interactive
Void levels are reach in nonsensical ways (doing things that would kill you, walking backwards after solving a level, etc.)
