Spriggan Mark 2 (PCE CD, 1992)
Graphics-8.5 Sound-9 Control-8 Challenge-7 Story-?
Level Design-7.5 Frustration-8 Fun-7.5 Originality-6
Overall Score-7.5
+
Interesting mechanics (ammo based weapons system, choose your gear between missions after stage 3 (up to 5 weapons per suit),
You can turn around (and it's useful)
Regenerating health bar (Target Earth)
Good bosses overall
Great in-game cinematics (there's always something going on in the background)
Good variation (lots of different enemies)
Fast paced
Somewhat technically impressive
Use allies as cover
Nice cutscenes (and lots of them)
Nice in-game cinematics
Great art direction overall (some ugly/disfigured looking characters with strange hair)
+/-
Unlimited continues (normal mode)
-
Ammo based system with no reward for accuracy (no ranking system at all?) and no way to replenish ammo (only happens occasionally during gameplay)
Having to think about ammo in a shooter is annoying (the standard weapon is way too weak even for regular enemies)
Unbalanced weapons (offensive option and v. beam are too strong, homing missiles are often too slow)
Some weak sound effects
Having the character dialogue interrupt the action was a very bad move (you can turn it off though)
The in-game cinematics sometimes go a little overboard (making you waste lots of ammo on temporarily invincible enemies)
Trial & error (bosses, traps, sudden speed changes)
Somewhat short (~7 stages)
