Space Harrier (ARC, 1985)
Graphics-9 Sound-9 Control-7 Challenge-8 Story-5
Level Design-6.5 Frustration-8 Fun-7 Originality-7
Overall Score-7
+
Great art direction
large sprites
great sense of speed
surreal world (the alien feel really helps immersion)
difficulty options
awesome voices, some good bosses, decent length, mini-bosses, bonus levels (nothing too exciting but the dragon you ride on is cool)
-
Auto-steering towards the middle of the screen (why? changed on 32X)
repetitive
many similar bosses
sometimes hard to tell how close an object is and your own bullets hide enemies/obstacles
no weapon or speed systems
palette swapped bosses and enemies, somewhat uneven difficulty, somewhat annoying death voice, disappointing end boss and ending (should've been that siren-like guy with two sidekicks)
