Master of Darkness (SMS, 1992) - WIP
Graphics-7.5 Sound-7.5 Control-7 Challenge-7 Story-6
Level Design-7 Frustration-7 Fun-7 Originality-4.5
Overall Score-7
+
Decent variation
Good cutscenes overall
Some fun sub weapons (bombs)
Some good bosses
Some control improvements over Castlevania (mid-air control, keep momentum when walking off of ledges, jump off of (but not onto) stairs, move while crouching)
Alternate main weapons
Minor platforming puzzles
Hidden items
+/-
Borrows heavily from Castlevania
Some overpowered weapons (the stake/spike - too good against the final boss and there's plenty of them in that level)
The sword kind of sucks? (barely stronger than the stick)
Can't attack while walking
Frequent health power ups
-
A bit short
No difficulty options
Some trial & error (some cheap enemy placements, some bosses, the maze in the final stage)
Some control issues (can't use sub weapons while crouching, no jump height control, can't fall off of stairs)
No weapon inventory
Repeats some enemies a lot
Sometimes bland backgrounds
