Mario Kart 64 (N64, 1996) WIP
Graphics-7.5 Sound-7.5 Control-8.5 Challenge-6.5*
Level Design-8 Frustration-7.5* Fun-7.5** Originality-6
Overall Score-
*Easy/50cc
**1-player
+ 4-player? vs. mode, difficulty options (easy/normal/hard on four different GP cups to race), time trial mode, eight different characters, sound queues on power ups (when a shell is near or someone is invincible), pretty fun power ups (homing shell, ghost, invincibility, lightning), drifting (jump then slide after landing) and jumping, pretty good track variation, boost start move (time it right)
+/- Random and unbalanced power ups (you usually get the stronger ones when falling behind), can't shoot shells backwards, sometimes odd physics (hitting a wall/fence from the front doesn't stop you outright, odd how you jump forward from slowly driving up a grass slope unto a road section),
- No backwards view, so-so sense of speed (oddly faster when zoomed out), need to figure out character stats for yourself?, lack of options (sound levels, power ups?, tweaking the cars), some boring and/or too long tracks (traffic stage in second GP, wario's stadium stage), digitized sprites mixed with polygon backgrounds (creates a jarred look, sprites look like they're made of plastic), rubberband AI on normal/hard, some annoying sounds (power up randomizer, some instruments), minor pop-up (rainbow road bow wows), somewhat short (16 tracks, then a mirror mode)
