Knightfall 2 (PC, 2009)
Graphics-8 Sound- Control- Challenge- Story-7
Level Design-8.5 Frustration-8.5 Fun-8 Originality-7
Overall Score-
+
Mixes RPG and Puzzle (Bejeweled/Mr Driller + Settlers/Wonder Boy)
Interesting mechanics
Great dialogue (old English)
Great art direction
Good animation and sound effects
Much better flow than in the prequel
Fun spells (switch (teleport), metamorphosis (chicken), invisibility, lightning, meteor shower)
Good length for a free game
Good bosses
Unlimited continues
You can roast chickens with flame magic
-
Can't see tiles above some enemies/objects (makes mech whale boss much tougher)
You can end up pinned at the start of a level (having to make an evasive manoeuvre to avoid being hit)
Enemies fall into the screen and hit you when you're removing blocks
Turning the screen counts as a turn when determining if an enemy can attack (can get very frustrating)
Can't sell items
Uneven difficulty curve (mech whale is the hardest boss, later on you can hang around a level to increase health using the right items)
Invisibility is overpowered
Antidotes are useless after the initial levels
Somewhat repetitive
Entering the endless tower at higher levels is extremely expensive for no good reason (just wastes more time) and grinding there is a slow business
Somewhat laggy
Uneventful locations (no side story progressions here)
Cumbersome map (you can only walk between connected locations)
No difficulty options (first one had them)
Some sloppy looking backgrounds
You can miss treasure?
