Keio Flying Squadron 2 (SAT, 1996)
Graphics-8 Sound-7.5 Control-7.5 Challenge-7.5 Story-6
Level Design-7.5 Frustration-7 Fun-7.5 Originality-6
Overall Score-7.5
+
Mixes platforming with shoot em up gameplay
Nice animation and art direction
Nice cutscenes (grainy FMV though)
Interesting HP system (receive points for good actions, lose them for lazy actions or getting hit)
Pick stuff up and throw it (try it on pretty much anything)
Use weapons as items (James Pond 2 style)
Difficulty options
Unlockable extras
Some alternate paths
Quite fast paced
Shooter levels get intense later on
Humorous and strange
Bonus games (hard because you can't predict the position of the next platform)
Cart rides
Interactive objects (in overly simple puzzles)
Lots of transparency effects
+/-
Pretty long levels
You drop your weapon when you get hit
Only two shooter levels
-
Trial & error (falling boulders, a few leaps of faith)
Can't look up/down or move while crouching
HP system seems a bit random at times (do nothing in scene 3 to gain +5HP)
Some annoying voices (throw move unfortunately) and sfx (get gold, bounce)
Hit detection isn't perfect
Slow acceleration when starting to move (can be helped by holding the run button but this makes precision movement harder)
Delay on bow attack
Some dead space in earlier levels
No special attacks in shooter levels?
Keio is a slow climber
Somewhat short (6 levels)
Somewhat anticlimactic final boss (vertical platform segment)
