Cotton Boomerang (SAT, 1998)(1p)
Graphics-8.5 Sound-8 Control-8.5 Challenge-8 Story-?
Level Design-8 Frustration-8 Fun-8.5 Originality-6
Overall Score-8.5
+
2-player co-op
Interesting mechanics (use grab/shield move to block projectiles and trap enemies in bubbles which you can then throw and get combos, level up system)
Destructible set pieces
6+ different characters to choose from (switch between 3 on the fly)
Respawn on the spot
Pretty fast paced and intense
Smart bombs
Great variety (tons of different enemies with great animation)
Diagonal burst shots
Good bosses
Shield power up
Difficulty options
Tea time mini-game (catch the falling objects or avoid all of them for a large point bonus)
Ranking system
Free play mode
Cool final level (the boss keeps pestering you shinobi-style throughout the level)
+/-
Forgiving hit box
Basically an update to Cotton 2
-
Can't adjust speed normally (you go faster when charging your main shot but it's very impractical, otherwise you go too slow for some attacks)
Some slowdown (2-player)
Unbalanced characters
Power ups are somewhat distracting (works like in twinbee)
Character switch and smart bomb in one move (means you have to waste a bomb to switch character)
Trial & error (bosses, enemies spawning quickly in patterns on screen, enemies attacking from behind, fire dragons in lvl 7)
Some annoying voices
Cutscenes aren't up to par with Panorama Cotton
