Good art direction
Great variety
Some large sprites
Cool escape sequence in the finale
Good bosses overall
Mixes mega man style platforming with shoot em up sequences
Some creative stage designs (lava crater, roller coaster)
Password save
Unlimited continues?
4 directional shooting (need to jump to shoot down)
No knockback (but very short cooldown time)
Evenly placed checkpoints
+/-
Long levels (since you start over from the beginning after losing all lives, hard segments late in a level can really set you back)
-
Trial & error (metal snakes, spinning cogwheel room, boss patterns, etc.)
Somewhat uneven difficulty
Some control problems (can't look up/down, some characters have clunky controls, Bucky - vertical based jump, jump charge is set to the fire button, can't move sideways while shooting up or down, charged jump is canceled if you take a hit)
No difficulty options?
Some bosses have instant death attacks
