Power Strike II/GG Aleste II (GG, 1993)
Graphics-9.5 Sound-8.5 Control-9 Challenge-8.5 Story-4
Level Design-8.5 Frustration-8 Fun-8.5 Originality-6
Overall Score-8.5
+
Intense and varied action (the most intense in the GG series)
Good weapon system (easier to catch power ups this time, 3 levels of upgrades for the 4 special weapons, 5 levels for the main weapon?)
Fun rail shooter bonus stages (lock-on feature)
Great bosses overall (multiple phases, some with locational damage, some creative attacks)
Mini-bosses
Smart bombs (nice visual effect, regain one per life lost - quite rare as a drop however)
Lots of sprites on screen with little slowdown
Difficulty options (easy-very hard/mania)
Respawn on the spot while losing only 1 main and special weapon level. Additional power ups also appear even during boss fights
Shield power up (1 additional HP)
Some destructible enemy bullets (use napalm or the spinning shield orb)
Good ending cutscene
+/-
Unlimited continues (restart from the beginning of the current level)
Not as easy to rack up extra lives
-
Sprite flicker (not for enemy bullets however)
Trial & error (enemies attacking quickly from behind and spraying bullets)
Fewer weapons than in some other Aleste games (only 4) and the Delta/spinning shield orbs one isn't that good
Speed is only adjustable before playing
Minor slowdown
A bit short (6 proper levels and about 30 minutes if you don't get a game over)
