Mini-bosses
Good bosses (always several forms)
Varied level design
Humorous
Cutscenes
Difficulty options (not much of a difference between normal and hard though)
Some creative level designs
Ranking system
Hidden power ups (Revenge of Shinobi style)
Good sound effects
Good weapons system (control your partners attack (only front/back though)
Smart bomb-style special attack (choose between 4 different ones)
Memorable locations (japanese temple, highway train, scyscraper)
Good options (many choices such as 8-way targeting and option/gun drone behavior)
-
Female protagonists
Somewhat unbalanced weapons system (not much use for the front/back variety)
Some poor color choices (cutscenes)
Some trial & error (vertical auto-scrolling on stage 3)
Somewhat scratchy voices
No 2-player co-op
Score attack mode is not very well thought out (only one level? same as in-game)
Comment:
When I'm not in a TF3 mood, this is usually my next go to game in the genre. I could go on about game mechanics and such, it's one of the better 16-bit shooters I've played, but to be honest the endearingly silly anime setting and the great OST are the main reasons why I keep coming back.
